An Art Deco lidded box from Central Europe, dating to c. 1930s. Made in opaque black Hyalith glass, it is decorated with a fine silver-coloured geometric grid and raised on three curled glass feet.

The rounded body, domed lid and spherical finial give the compact form a strong silhouette, while the black-and-silver contrast keeps the geometric surface decoration prominent.
Context

Hyalith is a historical term for fully opaque black glass with strong roots in Central European glassmaking. The material was used by several European workshops and designers during the Art Deco period, including for pieces intended for Western European markets.

Very good vintage condition with minor loss to the silver-coloured decoration and one tiny chip to the interior.
