Product Information

Art Deco silver-plated pedestal bowl from France, c. 1925–1935. The bowl has a shallow circular interior set within a faceted hexagonal rim, raised on a turned pedestal stem and hexagonal foot.

Its sculptural form is balanced by engraved geometric rim panels, giving the piece a restrained but decorative surface typical of Art Deco tableware. Originally intended as a centrepiece, fruit bowl, or compote-style serving bowl, it works equally well as a decorative object.

Context

Silver-plated tableware was widely produced in France during the interwar period, offering the reflective finish of silver in more accessible domestic forms. The faceted outline and geometric ornament place this bowl within the Art Deco period. A small square punch reading “10” appears near the rim; this most likely refers to a silver-plating grade or quantity mark.

Condition Notes

Structurally sound and in excellent vintage condition for a piece of this age. Slight plating wear and minor surface scratches consistent with age and use. No missing parts, major dents, or structural issues. The bowl remains fully functional and displays very well.

Vintage and antique objects may show signs of age and use. Each piece is carefully cleaned before listing. Patina and original surfaces are preserved where appropriate, and minor restoration may be carried out when necessary.

Care Guide

Over time, vintage and antique silver-plated ware may develop slight oxidation or small brown spots, especially where the plating has naturally thinned with age.

Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth for routine care. If needed, a soft silver polishing cloth may be used sparingly on the affected areas only. Wipe gently in one direction and avoid rubbing, as excessive polishing may further wear the plated surface. If using water, clean only with mild soap and dry immediately with a soft cloth.

Avoid abrasive polishes, heavy buffing, and prolonged moisture.
