Foldable four-arm candleholder cast in solid bronze, produced in Germany around 1970.

The arms are connected by cross-bracing and pivot from a central screw beneath the base, allowing slight adjustment while maintaining structural stability. The rough cast surface and weight of the material reflect the Brutalist approach to functional metalwork of the period.

The piece functions as both candleholder and small-scale sculpture, characteristic of mid-century Brutalist metalwork.

 
Context

During the 1960s–70s, designers across Europe revisited craft-based metalwork as a counterpoint to industrial production. Bronze castings with deliberately irregular surfaces were often produced in small workshops, particularly in Germany and Scandinavia, where functional objects were approached as sculptural forms.
