Product Information

Handled bowl model 4585 by Kayserzinn (J.P. Kayser Sohn), Germany, 1903–04, documented by the Austrian Federal Monuments Authority (Bundesdenkmalamt) and attributed to designer Karl Berghoff. The underside is stamped “Kayserzinn 4585,” confirming its catalogue reference within the early Jugendstil production period.

Cast in art pewter with an integrated architectural handle and a relief wheat motif set within a geometric medallion, the form reflects the structural clarity characteristic of German Art Nouveau around 1900. Produced in Krefeld during Kayserzinn’s formative art metal phase, this model belongs to the documented 4000-series catalogue range.

Context

Founded in 1862 in Krefeld, Kayserzinn became one of Germany’s leading art pewter workshops between 1894 and 1910. Designers including Karl Berghoff and Hugo Leven contributed to a body of work that integrated symbolic vegetal motifs with restrained architectural form.

Model numbers in the 4000 range correspond to Kayserzinn’s early Art Nouveau catalogue period. Comparable handled bowls from this phase are preserved in German museum collections, situating model 4585 within an established production lineage.
