Product Information

Kayserzinn pewter bee dish, model 4199, made in Germany around 1897–1900. An original Kayserzinn model, attributed to Hugo Leven.

Formed as an open flower, the dish has a softly lobed outline, with a central blossom and bees in relief. The restrained composition and clean form gives it a more sculptural reading than more heavily ornamented Art Nouveau tableware. It works well as a decorative tabletop dish, catchall, or display piece.

Context

Kayserzinn was the art-pewter line of J. P. Kayser Sohn and helped establish pewter as a modern decorative material around 1900. Produced in a lead-free alloy, model 4199 reflects the workshop’s early Jugendstil language, where flowing relief is integrated into the form rather than added as surface ornament.

Condition Notes

Very good overall condition, with minor scratches and surface wear consistent with age and use. An engraved personal monogram, “M.S.”, is present on the rim.

Vintage and antique objects may show signs of age and use. Each piece is carefully cleaned before listing. Patina and original surfaces are preserved where appropriate, and minor restoration may be carried out when necessary.

For general information about vintage condition, see the FAQ. If you would like additional photographs or a detailed condition report, please contact us before purchase.

Care Guide

Handle with care and clean gently with a soft dry or slightly damp cloth only. Avoid abrasive cleaners, metal polishes, and aggressive buffing, as these may damage the original pewter surface and soften the relief detail.
