Product Information

A small metal box produced by WMF in Germany between 1928 and 1935, originally intended for cigars or personal items. The box is made of hammered brass with a wooden interior lining and stands on four turned Bakelite feet. The object reflects WMF’s early-20th-century transition toward simplified geometric forms and tactile metal surfaces.
Context

Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF), founded in 1853 in Geislingen, was one of the largest European producers of household metalware. During the interwar period, the company produced decorative domestic objects that bridged late Jugendstil craftsmanship and emerging Art Deco modernity. Hammered surfaces and restrained geometric relief motifs were common in WMF metalwork of this period.

Condition Notes

Very good vintage condition consistent with age and use. Minor wear including small dents and light surface tarnish. Interior wood lining remains intact; a small loose fragment is audible inside the structure but not accessible.
