Product Information

A WMF metal pedestal tazza bowl, Germany, c.1909–1914.

The bowl has a wide flared body and three black spherical feet that raise the vessel above a low circular base, giving it a clean sculptural profile. Raised dotted clusters repeat across the body and rim, adding organic surface detail to the restrained metal form.

The decoration appears to have been punched or stamped from the outside of the bowl, creating raised dots on the visible surface. The underside bears WMF’s ostrich mark, used by the company in several versions during the early 20th century.

Context

WMF used different maker’s marks across different periods, which helps identify the maker, origin, and approximate date of this piece. The ostrich mark on this bowl corresponds to a version generally associated with c.1909–1914 production. The “G” refers to Geislingen an der Steige, the German town where WMF was historically based and where much of its metalware production was centred.

The form sits between late Jugendstil metalware and the cleaner geometric language that would later become associated with Art Deco.

Condition Notes

Very good antique condition for its age. The bowl is stable and intact, with no dents or cracks noted. There are light signs of age and use, including fine surface scratches, minor wear, small spots, and gentle dulling to the metal surface.

Vintage and antique objects may show signs of age and use. Each piece is carefully cleaned before listing. Patina and original surfaces are preserved where appropriate, and minor restoration may be carried out when necessary.
